The survivors surround the zombie and bludgeon it, until Dale finally decapitates the creature. Hearing a scream from Carl and another child, the survivors rush into the forest, discovering a zombie eating a deer. The next morning, Rick tells Lori that he cannot stop thinking about Merlin, and she guesses that her husband wants to return to Atlanta. She returns his wedding ring and the couple have sex, while a grim Shane sits outside in the rain. She apologises to Rick for the "bad times" in their marriage, but he insists that they have been given a second chance. Sure enough, Lori has the albums inside the tent. He explains to Lori that he knew they were alive, since the photo albums were missing from their home. That night, Rick and his family share a tent. T-Dog reminds her that he locked the door to the roof, suggesting that Merle is almost certainly still alive. Both Rick and T-Dog blame themselves, but Andrea argues that Merle was out of control and has only himself to blame. The group discusses how to break the news of Merle's fate to Daryl, who is currently out hunting. Rick expresses his gratitude to Shane, who got Lori and Carl away to safety. That night, as the group sit around the burning embers of a fire, Lori explains that she believed Rick to be dead. Rick shares an emotional reunion with his wife and son, while a shocked Shane watches on. Rick is the last to emerge, and is spotted by Shane, Lori and Carl. The truck carrying the other survivors arrives, and they are happily reunited with the camp inhabitants. As the trio bond, a whaling car alarm signals the arrival of Glenn in his stolen sports car.Īs Glenn returns to the camp, Shane angrily warns him that the alarm could have attracted zombies. Shane comforts the boy and promises to teach him the secret to catching frogs. At the camp, Lori is trimming Carl's hair, much to his displeasure. Meanwhile, as the other survivors drive away from Atlanta, Morales assures Rick that no one will care about Merle's fate, except for his brother Darryl. As the zombies begin to break down the door to the roof, Merle attempts to use his belt to snatch a gun, but is unsuccessful. He suddenly comes to his senses and struggles to free himself, screaming for help. The episode begins with Merle, still chained to the roof of the department store, ranting like a maniac and laughing to himself.
